A week on from National Fitness Day
Sandwell Leisure Trust proudly joined thousands of
organisations across the country to celebrate National Fitness Day, with a
packed programme of events and activities across our centres. From energetic
dance classes to strength challenges and community workouts, it was a day that
truly showed how fun and inclusive fitness can be.
Hundreds of local residents took part in free sessions, gym
challenges, wellbeing activities and opportunities to bring a friend along,
creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere. National Fitness Day is all about
inspiring more people to get moving, and this year Sandwell once again proved
that fitness is for everyone.
At Wednesbury Leisure Centre, members and newcomers
tested their limits with exciting Hyrox tasters, gym challenges and a wide
range of group exercise classes. The Bring a Friend for Free offer was
especially popular, with packed sessions in BodyPump, Body Combat, AquaFit and
more, creating an energetic buzz throughout the day.
Portway Lifestyle Centre was alive with activity too,
from functional fitness classes and an inclusive Mini Triathlon Challenge to a
special Les Mills Thrive taster session led by Master Trainer Sarah. Visitors
also benefitted from free Healthy Heart checks, supported by the Pumping
Marvellous Foundation and the local NHS team.
Over at Tipton Leisure Centre, the focus was firmly
on fun and culture with lively Zumba and Bhangra Fitness sessions, both of
which brought together music, movement and community spirit.
At Tipton Sports Academy, the spotlight turned to
racquet sports and social fitness. Residents made the most of free padel and
tennis court bookings, as well as the chance to bring a friend for free to the
gym.
The brand-new Sandwell Aquatics Centre showcased a
mix of challenges and workshops, with everything from plank hold competitions
to lifting technique demos and Good Boost therapeutic pool sessions. The gym
team also hosted a high-energy lunchtime HIIT class, while a special prize draw
added extra excitement.
Sandwell Leisure Trust also extended National Fitness Day to
the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital, where staff, patients,
visitors and local schools joined in with free classes, demonstrations and
sports taster sessions. From pilates, yoga and spin to fun games of table
tennis, the event highlighted how movement can boost both physical and mental well-being
in everyday life.
The day was a true success and a reminder of the power of
community fitness. Sandwell Leisure Trust would like to thank everyone who
joined us and helped make National Fitness Day 2025 such a memorable occasion.
